MARCH INNOVATION SESSIONS

ACADEMY OF HOCKEY MARCH INNOVATION SESSIONS

The Academy of Hockey is thrilled to announce four individual pop-up innovation sessions beginning next week that are centered around specific areas of the game. Each session focuses on individual tactics and you will see that the wide range of ages in each session will have no effect on your player’s result from this session. Coaches will also be grouping all players by skill-level/birth year.

Programs Offered:

            • Keep and Create Puck Handling Tactics (Stick Handling)

            • Scoring Area Finish

            • Body Contact (2 Sessions)

All sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis and are open to all travel-level players. These sessions are 50-minutes in length and most are aligned to provide players the ability to participate in multiple sessions if they desire.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Academy staff at any time: academy@harborcenter.com

Keep and Create Puck Handling Tactics (Stick Handling) 2007-2010

Led by Academy of Hockey Director Matt Ellis, this session is comprised of a high volume of reps and puck touches in different areas of the ice where we will unlock each player’s imagination and creativity with the puck on their stick. Concepts that we will be concentrating on are handling the puck with your eyes up, deception, endurance, creativity and unpredictability. Top players in the game want to have the puck and this session will help the player with the know-how and confidence to be dangerous with the puck.

Date: Tuesday, March 17

Time: 4:00-5:00pm

Birth Years: 2007-2010

Cost: $35

Scoring Area Finish 2007-2010

Led by Academy of Hockey Director Matt Ellis, this session is all about taking full advantage once you find yourself in different scoring areas. It’s not just enough to get to the right spots - it’s about knowing what to do when you get there! Our staff will guide you through selecting the right shot for the right scoring area to ensure you start turning your chances into goals. Themes will include deceptive shot techniques, angle changes, release speeds and advantageous net locations. It’s about having the tools to get the job done. Players love to score. We love to teach them how to do it!

Body Contact 2006-2007

As players move into their Bantam year, body contact is allowed in the game of hockey.  The Academy of Hockey understands the importance of this “skill”, and has built two sessions to assist players with their development of it. Body checking is used in order to separate your opponent from the puck with the goal of gaining puck possession. These sessions will highlight the following:

  • A review of the reasons why body checking is important.
  • Delivering and receiving a check with proper form and control; focusing on:
    • Skating and balance
    • Head position
    • Shoulder and arm placement
    • Leg drive
  • Positional angles and timing to generate a successful body check.
  • Understanding the danger zones on the ice when giving and receiving a body check.
